1) Tell us about your musical journey ? where it all started ?
Celtachor began in the early months of 2007, myself and David wanted to breath new life into the stories and sagas of Irish Mythology but in our own way, so we decided a full band was the best way to go. We didn’t really exist as a band until 2010 when we played our first show opening for Cruachan in Dublin. After that show things picked up we had a amazing drummer Anais join us, a second guitarist Fionn and Oliver who has been with us the last two years on bass. We have a really good working team for creating the music we do now. A good group of friends who work well together!
2) Where does your inspiration comes from ?
Our inspiration comes from the mythologies and stories themselves, but in terms of musical influence everything from Skyforger to Black Sabbath, Bathory and everything in-between. We all have unique inspirations that we bring together to form the music of Celtachor. So whether it be Doom, or black metal or old Irish traditional inspiration it all comes together in the end.
3) You are Irish, how does it feel to be from such celtic country ?
I think it is important to have a love and understanding of where you come from, in this aspect I think it is very important to carry on the stories and history of ones people. The main reason that Celtachor came into being was to continue to show our rich history to people here, Europe and beyond, To see these stories go by the wayside and forgotten would be a great loss indeed.
Bands I would recommend who I see doing great things for folk/pagan metal would be Arkona, Skyforger, Metsatoll, Heidevolk Obtest, and a handful of others. They really understand what they are doing and they showcase their cultural identity perfectly without the need of gimmicks. Honest music played with passion and integrity.
4) What your plans for the future ?
We have a new album to come, this will be our second! To say we are excited is a understatement a good two years of hard work have went into it, and I think people will enjoy it when it comes out! It will be our first release through our German label Trollzorn. We want to play more in Europe and beyond and get our music and message out there! If there are any promoters reading this interview and they are interested send us a email to [email protected]
5) Tell me about your last album ? what is it about ?
Our last album was about the coming of the Gael to Ireland, under the command of the Druid Amergin, it is quite a pivotal part of the Irish Mythological sagas. It tells the story of their landing to Ireland, The Battle Of Tailtin, Bodb Deargs kingship, and other members of the Gael in more detail. I would recommend anyone who is interested to check it out :) It is called “Nine Waves From The Shore” We have a new album coming this year so keep your eyes out for that!
6) What would you like to tell to all people out there ?
If you have any interest in Irish Mythology or history check us out, we may be to your liking!
I would say to anyone who has a interest and passion for whatever they do, keep your eyes focused on your goal, if you believe and work hard enough anything and everything is possible! Look into your roots and past, you may be surprised at what you find! There are riches to be had in the pages of books!
I want to thank everyone who has supported Celtachor in any way! Your support is forever appreciated! Slainte agus Tainte!
